(ANSA) - VENICE, SEP 18 - "The Croatian Republic officially
declared the Istro-Veneto language as intangible heritage, and
this recognition means not only its protection but also its
promotion and study in schools and universities. Furthermore,
this decision will encourage its use and dissemination, so that
it can continue to live, enriching the entire community."
Roberto Ciambetti, President of the Regional Council of Veneto,
commented on the news made official during the Istro-Venetian
Festival in Buje, in Croatian Istria, "an ancient town that
joined the domains of the Serenissima Republic as early as 1358
to remain faithfully linked to it until 1797. Thus, the ideal
place to announce the recognition by the Croatian state of the
value of Istro-Venetian - explained Ciambetti - I must thank the
Croatian government and all those who have strived to achieve
this goal. But, first, I want to thank the Union of Italians and
the Region of Istria, which started the recognition process in
2016. (ANSA).
