Montenegro: the vote of no confidence raises tensions

Police reinforced in Podgorica

04 February, 14:55
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, FEB 4 - Tension has risen again in Montenegro, where the parliament has scheduled two crucial votes today. The first one on the reduction of the mandate of the Assembly, as proposed by Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic to go to early elections, and the second one on a motion of no confidence in the government proposed by Vice-Premier Dritan Abazovic along with the opposition. For days in Podgorica and other cities, there have been protests against Abazovic, accused of betraying the vote for a change that resulted from the August 2020 election. Since this morning - regional media reported - there has been a massive deployment of police and fire trucks in the capital's streets to avoid incidents and clashes. (ANSA).
