(ANSA) - PRISTINA, OCT 13 - Rising tensions in the north of
Kosovo, where the Serbian population staged protests against a
large operation of the Kosovo police directed against the
smuggling of goods. In the northern (Serbian) sector of Kosovska
Mitrovica and Zvecan, the protesters blocked some roads throwing
stones and other objects at police, who responded with tear gas
and deafening sound bombs. The police reported in a statement
that the anti-smuggling operation also covers the southern
(Albanian) sector of Mitrovica, the capital Pristina, Peja
(Pec), and other towns. (ANSA).
