Italy's ambitious Mattei Plan to fund
development projects in Africa with the aim of stemming migrant
departures entails cooperation on an equal footing, President
Sergio Mattarella told Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa
Akufo-Addo on the second and last stage of his African trip in
Accra on Friday.
Mattarella also stressed that naming the plan after late Eni oil
group founder Enrico Mattei was "not accidental because Mattei
really was a great friend of Africa, of the whole continent,
against all forms of colonial exploitation, for collaboration on
an equal footing to safeguard local resources and that is also
the objective of the Mattei Plan".
"The plan is therefore for a collaboration according to the
indications and defined needs of the continent's countries".
