President Sergio Mattarella on
Thursday viewed a major new Eni project in Cote d'Ivoire on his
first state visit to the west African country.
The president visited a gas transport infrastructure project
along the Grand Bassam road.
The gas produced by the Baleine field is transferred to the
Ivorian energy network, feeding electricity generation in the
country.
The field was discovered by the Italian energy giant in 2021 and
production started in 2023.
It is the first zero emissions development project in Africa.
The Baleine project helps Ivorians get their electrical power
and boost Cote d'Ivoire's position as regional energy hub.
