Pope Francis spoke about World Human
Rights Day, which this year marks the 75th anniversary of the
proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
(UDHR), during his Angelus address on Sunday.
"Seventy-five years ago, on 10 December 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed," the pope said.
"It is a highway on which many steps forward have been taken.
"But many are still missing and sometimes, unfortunately, we go backwards "The commitment to human rights never ends.
"In this regard, I am close to all those who, without making proclamations, fight and speak out in person to defend the rights of those who do not count in concrete ways in their every-day lives".
