Pope Francis on Tuesday called for a
"demilitarization of hearts" over the Ukraine conflict.
In his message for grandparents' day on July 24, Francis said a
"conversion" was needed to achieve this.
"The world is going through a period of tough trial, marked
first by the unexpected and furious storm of the pandemic, and
then by a war that wounds peace and development on a global
scale," he said.
"It is no accident that war has returned to Europe at a time
when the generation that lived through it in the last century is
disappearing."
Stressing that there are "other widespread forms of violence",
the pontiff said "we need a deep change, a conversion, to
demilitarize hearts, enabling everyone to recognize a brother in
others".
