Lazio striker Ciro Immobile on Tuesday
left the Italy squad for Friday's crunch World Cup qualifier
against Switzerland with a problem to his left calf muscle
picked up during Sunday's 3-0 home win over Salernitana, squad
sources said.
Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca has been called up in place
of last year's Golden Boot winner.
Earlier Tuesday Immobile said he thought criticism of his
displays for his country was unfair and said he hoped to be top
scorer in Italy's likely World Cup campaign in Qatar next year.
Italy coach Roberto Mancini said Monday that his players must
not let the pressure of Friday's crunch World Cup qualifier
against Switzerland in Rome get to them.
The Azzurri and Switzerland both have 14 points from six games,
but Mancini's men are top of Group B on goal difference going
into the last two qualifiers.
Italy face Northern Ireland in Belfast on Monday in their last
qualifier.
