The Presidents of the G7 Business
Federations were in Rome at the 'B7' summit on Friday to
finalize the recommendations they will give Premier Giorgia
Meloni later in the day in view of next month's G7 summit in
Puglia.
"There are challenges and risks. Threats and dangers. Enormous
opportunities and great advantages to be grasped too," said B7
President Emma Marcegaglia. "The challenges and opportunities we
face today are immense.
"There is no plan B other than to work together, public and
private sectors, to face them and make the best of them".
Marcegaglia said the business world had two main, interconnected
worries - "maintaining the founding values ;;of liberal
democracies and increasing the competitiveness of our market
economies.
"Open markets are in danger," she continued.
"A multitude of challenges require our collective wisdom and
concerted action. "We believe that two major pacts are needed -
the first between political leaders and businesses; the second
between G7 governments to build strong convergence on industrial
policies regarding the main challenges".
