American filmmaker Laura Poitras won
the Golden Lion at the 2022 Venice Film Festival at the weekend
with her documentary "All the Beauty and the Bloodshed".
The film focuses on the career of activist Nan Goldin and her
efforts to hold Purdue Pharma, owned by the Sackler billionaire
family, accountable for its role in the opioid epidemic.
Italy's Luca Guadagnino won the best director award for "Bones
and All", a coming-of-age romantic horror road about two
cannibalistic lovers starring Timothée Chalamet.
