Safety at work is not a luxury but a
duty, Italian Bishops Conference (CEI) President Cardinal Matteo
Zuppi said at a union protest against workplace deaths in
Bologna Thursday after Tuesday's hydro plant disaster in the
Bologna mountains that killed seven workers.
"Safety is not a cost, it is not a luxury but a duty, an
inalienable right for every person," said Zuppi, in his speech
in Piazza Maggiore in Bologna at the demonstration by CGIL and
UIL, protesting against deaths at work after the disaster at
Enel's Bargi power plant.
"Safety requires investment," he continued, "when safety is seen
as a useless cost, it means we are irresponsible".
