Italian police on Friday cleared
three homes in Rome belonging to the Casamonica crime family,
local officials said.
The residential complex comprising one 'villetta' for one family
and another villetta for two families, had already been
sequestered for mafia offences.
The site will now be turned into the provincial headquarters of
the Carabinieri police, official said.
Rome's new Mayor Roberto Gualtieri thanked police for "an
intervention that helps restore the presence of the State and to
reaffirm legality".
Rightwing League leader Matteo Salvini also thanked the police
saying "there are women and men who must be helped and defended,
not abandoned".
