Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister
Antonio Tajani said Tuesday that he considered centre-right
Liguria Governor Giovanni Toti innocent until proven guilty
after he was put under house arrest in relation to a corruption
probe.
"As far as I'm concerned, a person is only guilty when convicted
in the third-instance (trial at the supreme court)," Tajani
said.
"That goes for people from the centre right who may be involved
(in probes) as for those from the centre left.
"I am convinced that Toti will do everything to prove his
innocence, to prove that he has nothing to do with the charges
against him.
"I want to be optimistic and confident for him".
