The human brain contains the
foundations of 'broken heart syndrome', new research by the
policlinico university hospital in Foggia shows.
The nuclear medicine team, whose work has been published in the
Journal of the American college of cardiology-cardiovascular
imagining, found that the syndrome has a scientific basis
residing in various parts of the brain.
The researchers said "our study offers new hope of treating the
condition".
Takotsubo cardiomyopathy or "Broken Heart Syndrome" is when the
heart muscle becomes suddenly stunned or weakened. It mostly
occurs following severe emotional or physical stress. The
condition is temporary and most people recover within two
months.
