(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 4 - This year's Ryder Cup in Rome will
mark the start of a new era for golf, Italian Golf Federation
President Franco Chimenti said Thursday.
"Hoping that an Italian wins it would be the most banal thing to
say," Chimenti said about the September 29-October 1 biannual
clash between Team Europe and Team USA, this time at the Marco
Simone Club on the outskirts of the Italian capital.
"But I want to tell you what is the most important goal for me:
to offer a very important course for the Ryder Cup.
"We have built a course fit for this unbelievable event that we
will live in a few months' time.
"It will qualify us in the eyes of the world and will start a
new era for golf". (ANSA).
