The first two electrically powered service vehicles were put on the road in the Port of Trieste, delivered, and purchased with EU funds. Along with the new vehicles, charging stations have also recently been installed.

The purchase, the Port announced, was possible thanks to the "SuSport - Sustainable Ports" project, financed by the Interreg Italy-Croatia 2014-2020 Cross-Border Cooperation Programme.

The project aims to improve the environmental performance and energy efficiency of the Adriatic ports of Italy and Croatia, implementing pilot actions on the fronts of noise, air quality, and CO2 emissions. Out of a budget of over 7 million euros, 753,000 euros were given to the Trieste Port Authority, which is also the project leader.

Susport also involves the ports of Venice, Ravenna, Ancona, Bari, and Porto Nogaro, as well as the main Croatian ports - Rijeka, Zadar, Split, Ploce, Dubrovnik - as well as research institutes and promotion agencies of both countries.

The operation, the Port of Trieste underlined, represents one of the pieces of the broader decarbonization strategy of the harbor. "We have defined an ad hoc plan for a better livability of the port and to favor the ecological transition," pointed out Zeno D'Agostino, president of Trieste and Monfalcone Ports. "We are working not only on the renewal and redevelopment of the Authority's vehicle fleet but also of the operating vehicles used on the quay," he added.
