Estonia will allocate 1 mln to local Russian-language press

To foster 'cohesion' of information and the country

(ANSA) - VILNIUS, 14 NOV - The Estonian Ministry of Culture has made available about 1 million euros to fund the private Russian-language press published in Estonia. This is reported by Estonian Radio and Television. The funds, allocated through a public tender, are a means to stimulate greater independence of private Russian-language media and diversify their content. The measure aims, not least, to foster greater "cohesion" of information and society within the country. In Estonia, the Russian minority makes up more than 23 percent of the total population.
