Today, Serbia commemorates the
beginning of the 1999 NATO air campaign against the Federal
Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY), which led to the withdrawal of all
Serbian and Yugoslav police and military forces from Kosovo
nearly three months later. The central commemoration is
scheduled to take place in the city of Sombor in the presence of
top state officials, military police, and religious community
representatives, with Patriarch Porfirije, the head of the
Serbian Orthodox Church, leading a memorial service.
