(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, 02 MAR - The changes introduced by Poland
to the law governing the National Council for the Judiciary
"might potentially violate EU law." The European Court of
Justice ruled, specifying that, in the event of an ascertained
violation, the principle of EU law's primacy forces the judge to
disapply these changes. The EU Court has assessed the changes to
appointing judges of the National Council for the Judiciary
(Krs) and the Supreme Court in recent years. According to the
European judges, the amendments approved in Poland could
compromise judges' impartiality and independence. (ANSA).
