Grindhouse kicks off to enhance genre cinema

Europa Cinemas international project, between Italy and Slovenia

(ANSA) - UDINE, 30 GEN - The aim is to conquer a new "audience" for genre cinema, including horror, thriller, and science fiction, that is a production that "marks the richness of the film industry." Six cinemas in Italy and three in Slovenia have set themselves this goal by designing the project "Grindhouse - The New European Genre Cinema is coming," one of the 13 selected, among the 28 presented, within the "Collaborate to Innovate," the Europa Cinemas program, launched in 2021, funded by Creative Europe and built on the three core ideas of innovation, collaboration, and sustainability. The CEC, Centro Espressioni Cinematografiche of Udine, which takes part in the project with its Cinema Visionario, announced the plan today.

The other partners are Cinemazero in Pordenone, Ariston in Trieste, Cinema Classico in Turin, Cinema Astra in Florence, Kinemax in Gorizia, Kosovelov Dom in Sežana, Mestni Kino Domžale and Kino Mali Union in Celje, Slovenia.

The movies, the organizers announced, will be the protagonists "of a real competition imagined as a tournament with 'semi-finals' and 'finals' competitions, and eight films will be selected, divided into two groups of four, and the winners of the two groups will compete in the final." After that, the public will decide between March and April 2023.
