From 3 to 6 October to strengthen the fleet in Upper Adriatic

(ANSA) - DUINO-AURISINA, 03 SET - An ad hoc Maxi trophy dedicated to over 16-meter-long yachts was presented in Sistiana (Trieste) as part of the 2022 edition of Barcolana.

The first edition of the "Barcolana Maxi - Portopiccolo Trophy," taking place from 3 to 6 October, is organized by the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano (SVBG) and the Portopiccolo Yacht Club, under the authority of the Italian Sailing Federation.

As SVBG president Mitja Gialuz explained, this novelty within the Autumn Cup was launched by "an alliance between shipowners, yacht clubs and the Portopiccolo location, to make people talk about Maxi in the Upper Adriatic as well." At the competitive level, three trials are linked to the Trophy and scheduled in the Gulf of Trieste, which will anticipate the Cup on Sunday, October 9. Unlike the latter, the competition will be held under the ORC fee system, allowing all participants to "compete on equal terms." The Trophy, Gialuz underlined, is "a long-term strategic project aiming to strengthen a Maxi fleet already present in the Upper Adriatic and increase the tourist value of a wonderful location like Portopiccolo. Therefore, we expect important arrivals from abroad, neighboring countries, and beyond. But we are not looking at numbers: this is an event focusing on quality and not yet quantity." The event will take place in Portopiccolo from 3 to 6 October, and in Trieste, on the 6th, when the crews of the maxi yachts will race on the Barcolana to decide the winner on equal terms.
