In Ljubljana a street performance recreates life of Jews

Before the Italian and Nazi occupation and Holocaust

30 August, 13:39
(ANSA) - BELGRADE, AUG 30 - The Ljubljana Jewish Culture Centre, Mini Teater, and the Yiddishpiel theatre will stage a street performance called Jewish Life in Ljubljana in Krizevniska Street tonight and Wednesday, according to Slovenian news agency STA. The eight-act play will depict Jewish customs and celebrations prior to WWII, the occupation, and the Holocaust. During the Holocaust, local Jews, a small community in Slovenia at the time, were joined by thousands of refugees, first from Germany, Austria, Czechia, and Poland, and then, after 1941, mostly from Croatia. Following the German occupation of Yugoslavia in 1941, Jews began to be persecuted, while the Italian and Hungarian occupying forces behaved relatively milder, according to STA. (ANSA).
