(ANSA) - BRATISLAVA, JUN 24 - The first exhibition in Slovakia featuring Vasco Bendini, an artist from the Farnesina Collection, opened at the Bratislava Castle-Historical Museum on June 23 and will remain open until December 4.

A disciple of Virgilio Guidi and Giorgio Morandi at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, Bendini (1922-2015) was from the 1940s one of the prominent personalities of informal art in Italy and Europe. In the 1960s, he focused on objects and installations, anticipating the achievements of Arte Povera, whereas, in the following decade, he returned to painting definitively.

Works by Bendini have also been exhibited at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Saarbruecken Museum of Modern Art, the Saarlouis Museum of Modern Art, the Galleria Comunale d'Arte Moderna in Bologna, the Casa del Mantegna in Mantua, the PAC in Milan, the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara, and the Scuderie del Quirinale and MACRO in Rome.

Bendini, on several occasions, was featured at the Venice Biennale (1956, 1964, 1972), the Rome Quadrennial (1959, 1965, 1972, 1992), São Paulo Biennale in Brazil (1961), and the Tokyo Biennale (1962).

The exhibition, organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Bratislava and by the Embassy of Italy, is one of the outstanding initiatives of the 15th edition of the Italian festival in Slovakia, "Dolce Vita," held under the Patronage of Matúš Vallo, Mayor of Bratislava. (ANSA).
