(ANSA) - BELGRADE, DEC 22 - If managed differently, forests in the European Union could absorb twice as much CO2 every year, according to new research by Natural Forest Academy, commissioned by Greenpeace Germany. The study found that if logging was reduced by a third, the carbon absorption potential could be increased from 245.4 million tonnes of CO2 per year to 487.8 million tonnes, "while simultaneously benefiting biodiversity and increasing the resilience of forests," the report noted.
