Czech director Petr Vàclav's film "The Bohemian," featuring the adventures of eighteenth-century composer Josef Myslivecék, will open the 34th edition of the Trieste Film Festival, presented today, on January 21.

Over 200 guests are expected to stay in the city from January 21 to January 28, attending the screenings of over 120 films from over 40 countries.

The documentary "Souvenir d'Italie" by Giorgio Verdelli, portraying Lelio Luttazzi, will close the festival, one of the main ones dedicated to the Central-Eastern European filmmaking industry. There are nine titles in the feature film competition, eleven in the documentary competition, and seventeen in the short film competition. The focus countries are Czechoslovakia and Ukraine. The festival's artistic director is Nicoletta Romeo.

"The Trieste film festival - underlined the regional councilor for culture, Tiziana Gibelli - maintains the ability to innovate and integrate its cultural offer, also through the launch of interdisciplinary collaborations and dialogue with other sectors of culture." Several side events, including a panel connected to Gorizia-Nova Gorica, the European capital of culture in 2025, are scheduled for January 23, during which representatives of the previous culture capitals will be invited to the Savoia Excelsior hotel in Trieste to launch new synergies.

A series of meetings with authors, exhibitions and museum openings, book presentations, walks, music, food, and wine events are also planned.

The "When east meets west" initiative, a meeting point between producers, broadcasters, and markets from Eastern and Western countries, is also reaching its 13th edition.
