(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 04 DIC - The 34th edition of the Trieste Film Festival, featuring Central and Eastern European cinema, and scheduled from January 21 to January 28, will open a window into Ukraine and women's filmmaking.

The Festival, curated by Slavist and film critic Massimo Tria, will screen a varied selection of the country's recent production: seven feature films, including Ukraine's Oscar nominee, Maryna Er Gorbach's "Klondike," and several other titles in Italian premiere plus many short films, will introduce the path taken by female directors from Kyiv and its environs from the 2014 Maidan uprising until today.

To narrate this privileged observatory on cinematographies and authors little frequented by Italian audiences in 2023, the Festival, a statement explains, "chose an image that on the one hand would testify to our days and on the other hand would recall one of the focuses of the next edition, namely the one dedicated to Ukrainian women filmmakers in 'Wild Roses, Women Filmmakers in Europe.' The tribute paid to Ukraine will already begin with the image representing the Trieste Film Festival 2023, signed by Oleksandr Rupeta, a documentary photographer from Kyiv whose work deals mainly with anthropology and social conflicts.

"After the images chosen to represent the Trieste Film Festival in the past editions - said Max Mestroni of Climax, an agency that coordinates the Festival's production - characterized by a search for the contemporary interpretation of the reality within the festival's areas of interest, this year's iconography is older, albeit intense, and refers to a renewed simplicity."
