(ANSA) - BELGRADE, NOV 22 - Slovenian police processed 21,467
irregular border crossings in the first ten months of this year,
a 160% increase over the same period last year, according to
official data cited by the STA news agency. According to the
Slovenian news agency STA, the increase is still being driven
primarily by immigrants from Burundi, India, and Cuba, who do
not need a visa to enter Serbia and then continue to travel
illegally towards the EU, as well as from Afghanistan and
Bangladesh. Recently, the leaders of Serbia, Hungary, and
Austria confirmed that Belgrade would suspend visa-free regimes
with countries that have seen significant increases in arrivals.
The majority of illegal border crossings in Slovenia, 55%, are
still processed in the larger Koper area bordering Croatia and
Italy. (ANSA).
