(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 12 GEN - LJUBLJANA, JANUARY 12 - In Slovenia, the coronavirus pandemic has brought to light the delay accumulated in years of neglect in the field of care for the elderly. For this reason, the government has prepared a plan to expand the accommodation capacity of nursing homes, where over 2,000 new beds will soon be available. That is what the Minister of Labor, Family and Social Affairs, Janez Cigler Kralj, said during the press conference. The minister took stock of the epidemiological situation in elderly care centers. After numerous outbreaks in the country's nursing homes, which count about 13,000 guests, Cigler Kralj underlined that the situation has improved in the last two weeks, with the prospect of further stabilization thanks to the start of administration of the second vaccination dose, scheduled for January 18. However, the minister reiterated that the government should not abandon preventive measures, also because only a quarter of the staff has decided to get vaccinated so far. (ANSA).
