(ANSA) - BELGRADE, SEP 9 - The Brdo-Brioni summit will be held in Brdo pri Kranju, Slovenia, on Monday, September 12.

While all Western Balkan leaders will attend, a final joint declaration is unlikely due to growing tensions and distrust among some of them, according to Slovenian news agency STA.

Since 2013, annual Brdo-Brioni Process summits have been held to deepen regional cooperation and accelerate Balkan countries' EU integration. The event will be co-hosted by Slovenian President Pahor and Croatian President Zoran Milanovic. According to STA sources in Slovenia, the summit is taking place in particularly difficult circumstances, with signs of regional destabilization, fading EU enthusiasm, and "even personal grievances" between Balkan leaders. According to STA, "sources close to Pahor believe it is unlikely that the leaders will adopt a joint declaration, arguing that its drafting has revealed divisions, particularly over Bosnia and Herzegovina." Apart from Pahor and Milanovic, all leaders of the initiative have confirmed their participation in the Brdo-Brioni Process, according to a statement issued by the Slovenian government today. Albanian President Bajram Begaj is expected to attend, as are three members of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Presidency: Zeljko Komsic, Milorad Dodik, and Sefik Daferovic Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic; Kosovar President Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu; North Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovski; and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
