Latvia: high energy prices, middle class at risk of poverty
The number of subsidies is double compared to last year

(ANSA) - VILNIUS, SEP 14 - More than half of Latvian
households could face problems paying their bills for energy
during the winter season. The Latvian Association of Local
Governments president, Gints Kaminskis, said in an interview
with state-owned television.
"The high energy bill - Kaminskis underlined - puts at risk of insolvency not only low-income households but also a growing portion of the middle class. This situation represents a source of additional difficulty for the municipalities, which over this year will find themselves disburse twice as many subsidies as last year." (ANSA).
