(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 04 SET - French President Emmaniel Macron
and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have sent a joint letter to
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic urging him to show "utmost
determination and readiness" in taking "tough decisions" that
can "advance the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia under the
auspices of the EU."
In the letter, which was announced today by the presidency in
Belgrade, Macron and Scholz emphasize that they took this
decision "at a time of decisive importance for security on the
European continent and stability in the Western Balkans region."
"We are convinced that, in light of Russian aggression
against Ukraine, we must further intensify our efforts to make
the European perspective of the Western Balkan countries a
reality, and long-standing bilateral and regional disputes are
resolved." For the two European leaders, "the full normalization
of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is of crucial importance
for the Western Balkans."
"The recent tensions have shown the urgent need for
constructive steps forward, both at the practical and political
level," say Macron and Scholz, who have therefore instructed
their respective foreign and security policy advisers to lend
direct support to EU Special Envoy Miroslav Lajcak and accompany
him on his missions to Kosovo and Serbia with the aim of
facilitating progress in the negotiation process. (ANSA).
