As part of Open Balkan.Focus on energy and Berlin Process

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 26 OTT - The energy crisis and the upcoming regional summit as part of the Berlin Process, scheduled for Nov. 3 in the German capital, were the focus of a video conference meeting Serbian President Alreksandar Vucic had today with the premiers of Albania and North Macedonia, Edi Rama and Dimitar Kovacevski.

The three countries launched the 'Open Balkan' initiative a couple of years ago, the aim of which is to create the conditions for a common market in the entire Balkan region, facilitating and accelerating trade in goods, people, services and capital, and thereby helping to raise the Balkans' degree of competitiveness vis-à-vis major global economies.

The initiative is open to other countries in the region, but so far they have been cautious about joining for fear that it would be a re-run of the old Yugoslavia dominated by Serbs and Belgrade. The Berlin Process, initiated in 2014 by Angela Merkel, aims to support and foster the European integration process of the Western Balkan countries. Ahead of the summit in early November, interior and foreign ministers from countries in the region have been meeting in Berlin in recent days. (ANSA).
