(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 7 - The government of Latvia has submitted amendments to the Immigration Law to make it less easy to grant residence permits to citizens of Russia and Belarus, the authorities in Riga announced in a statement.

The amendments stipulate that until June 30, 2023, temporary residence permits for the benefit of citizens of the two countries will no longer be issued.

In addition to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have also announced that they will significantly restrict Russian and Belarusian citizens' access to their respective territories, even if they hold valid EU visas for the Schengen area, with few exceptions.
