(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 08 GEN - ROME, JANUARY 8 - Caritas Internationalis launched an 880,000 euro crowdfunding campaign to raise 880,000 euro to help Caritas Croatia guarantee safe and dignified living conditions for homeless people after the December 29 earthquake. "After the first earthquake - said Suzana Borko, deputy head of Caritas Croatia - the earth continued to shake every day, and people live in a constant state of fear and stress. The earthquake affected a vast area of ;about 2000 square km".

While over two hundred Caritas volunteers continue to distribute food and hygiene kits to people affected by the earthquake, long-term plans are being drawn up. "We want to help people rebuild their homes and their communities," added the deputy head of Caritas Croatia. The Caritas 8-month project will initially help around 200 families by providing prefabricated housing and financial and technical aid to enable people to repair their homes. In the area hit by the earthquake, not far from Zagreb, Caritas' response will support people living in rural areas. Suzana Borko reported that up to 90% of the houses in the villages between Petrinja and Glina were seriously damaged, "The primary objective of Caritas - she explained - is to offer decent housing and assist people in rebuilding their homes, and we will stay beside these communities until we achieve this result.".
