(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 04 GEN - The Croatian HDZ nationalist party won the local elections in Mostar, the capital of Herzegovina, where on December 20, for the first time in 12 years, the local elections took place. According to regional media, the electoral commission has released the final official results after the vote recount in 70 of the 166 seats in which the same commission had detected some irregularities.

The HDZ, a Bosnian affiliate of the majority HDZ party in neighboring Croatia, won 13 of the 35 seats in the Municipal Council, whereas the Muslim SDA party's coalition won 12 seats.

The remaining seats went to minor parties. The new Municipal Council will elect the mayor of Mostar, southern Bosnia-Herzegovina, famous for the Old Bridge (Stari Most) over the river Neretva, destroyed during the 90s war rebuilt with donations from various countries, including Italy. The new bridge's kick-off took place in 2004. (ANSA).
