Covid:Austria 2020, deaths up 11% compared to 5-year average

Life expectancy decreased by half in one year

(ANSA) - BOLZANO, 14 GEN - The coronavirus pandemic has caused a sharp increase in deaths in Austria. According to Statistik Austria's data, 90,123 people died in 2020, which is almost 11% more than the average of the last five years. The figure, experts underlined, is destined to rise again with the latest updates from the registry offices. On the other hand, life expectancy in the year of Covid decreased by six months: for men, it is now 78.9 years, and for women 83.7 years. In a few weeks in the autumn, the increase in deaths was as much as 60%. (ANSA).
