The rest of the country, 54 out of 61 municipalities, went to the Socialists, who managed to seize control of Shkodra, a city in the country's north and a historic right-wing stronghold, for the first time.
While approximately 15% of the ballots in Tirana have yet to be counted, the current Socialist mayor Erion Veliaj is leading with 54 percent, 20 percentage points ahead of his rival Belind Kelliçi from the coalition of the Democrats led by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha and the Party of Freedom led by former Head of State Ilir Meta.
