(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 8 - Poland's Adrian Meronk won the 80th
Italian Open golf tournament on Sunday with a score of 13 under
par beating Frenchmen Romain Langasque (-12) andJulien Guerrier
(-10).
The tourney took place at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club
just outside Rome which is set to host this year's Ryder Cup at
the end of September.
Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said "the Open is the perfect
springboard for the Ryder Cup here, and that will be an engine
for Italy's bid for the 2030 Expo".
The chief of Italian sport, Olympic Committee (CONI) President
Giovanni Malagò, said on the Ryder Cup on September 29 to
October 1 that "the world is waiting for us and we won't let
them down".
Italian Golf Federation President Franco Chimenti said "we've
always believed in the Ryder Cup, Italy can do anything".
