Golf: Ryder Cup boost for Rome's Expo 2030 bid says Tajani

Europe-USA clash 'great opportunity' says FM in Japan

Redazione ANSA ROME

(ANSA) - ROME, APR 18 - The 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome will boost the Italian capital's bid to host Expo 2030, Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani reiterated Tuesday.
Speaking at the G7 foreign ministers meeting in Japan, Tajani said the Ryder Cup "is the third most followed sports event in the world after the Olympics and the soccer World Cup. This year, the challenge between Team Europe and Team USA will be played in Rome, on the course of the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club. (It will be) a fundamental occasion for sport, an engine for tourism and an important opportunity for Rome which is bidding to host Expo 2030.
"Demonstrating you are able to organise great events certainly helps boost pour bid (for Expo)".
Tajani urged "all golf fans in Japan to look with great attention at what is happening in Italy.
"If they want to come and visit our country, we'll be ready to welcome them with open arms". (ANSA).
