(ANSA) - ROME, APR 12 - Italian Golf Federation President
Franco Chimenti said Wednesday that access to next month's
Italian Open at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club near Rome
will be free, as excitement grows for the 2023 Ryder Cup, which
will be hosted at the same venue later this year.
"The Italian Open will be an extraordinary event," Chimenti told
a press conference in Rome ahead of the May 4-7 tournament,
which is part of the DP World Tour, .
"It will be free. We are foregoing a major source of revenue and
we are doing so to promote the sport".
Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri stressed the importance that both
events will have for the Italian capital.
"The Italian Open will attract great attention and media
coverage," he said.
"It will be a succulent taster for the Ryder Cup, certifying
once again the connection between sport and tourism".
The 44th Ryder Cup takes place from September 30 to October 2.
