Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of Italy (FdI) on Wednesday held the first meeting of the party executive since it spearheaded the rightwing coalition to victory in last month's general election.
Meloni, who is set to become Italy's first woman premier, chaired the meeting, which lasted two and a half hours.
She is currently holding a series of meetings at the Lower House as she seeks to put together the new government team, striking a balance that satisfies her party and its alliance partners, possibly with the inclusion of non-political technocrats to head some ministries.
League leader Matteo Salvini is reportedly keen to return to his previous post as interior minister, but his position has been weakened by the League's relatively poor performance in the elections.
The League got around 9% of the vote compared to 26% for FdI, and 8% for the other main party in the bloc, three-time former premier and media magnate Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia (FI).
After Wednesday's meeting Meloni smiled and nodded when asked if a message from Salvini was among those she was reading on her cell phone.
