The "delays" in economic development
of southern Italy are weighing on the whole of Italy and the
post-COVID EU-funded National Recovery and Resilience Plan
(NRRP) is a chance to make up the gap, Bank of Italy Governor
Vincenzo Visco said Monday.
"The gravity of the Mezzogiorno's delay in development and the
southern question are slowing down the whole growth of the
national economy," Visco said in presenting the report 'The
North-South Gap: Economic Development and Public Intervention',
compiled by Bank of Italy economists.
The RNNP, he said "now offers an extraordinary opportunity to
attack the delay factors in the economy and bolster territorial
cohesion (between north and south)".
