- BARI, 26 AGO - From Pasolini to David Bowie, the Cure and
the Chemical Brothers, this will be the Concertone of "tributes"
as the iconic tamburello sounds on the Melpignano stage on
Saturday night for the 25th edition of La Notte della Taranta.
Concert master Dardust said that he will evoke on stage "a
journey through space and time, from the Baroque to Rossini, the
Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, and David Bowie", without
betraying tradition, but projecting it into the future, even
rejigging it in some cases, but always with great respect".
So the Salento stage, after two years without a live in person
audience, will get Melpignano dancing in frenzy again.
It will be a journey through the history of music that will see
alongside the Taranta Popular Orchestra a succession of faces
from the Italian and international pop scene like Samuele
Bersani, Elodie, Marco Mengoni, Massimo Pericolo, Studio Murena,
Kety Fusco and super guest Stromae, "who has made
multiculturalism his strong point" says Dardust.
There had been some contact with Madonna too, "but then she went
on holiday to Sicily", the concert master said wryly.
As for Stromae, Dardust said "he's an idol for me, a game
changer of contamination, perfect for the Taranta concept but
also perfect for how I live the creative vision, and it would be
an honour to work together".
The overture will be a solo tamburello piece, because "I wanted
their sound to be central", Dardust explains.
"In this month," he went on, "I saw all the concerts of the
popular orchestra, I learned to know the cathartic power of the
pizzica, the exchange of energy that it creates with the public
almost like a magic ritual, its extraordinary emotional force,
and at a certain point I was pizzicato (stung) too."
Among the 30 pieces on the playlist in the Melpignano night, one
is an unreleased composition, a tribute to Pier Paolo Pasolini
on the centenary of his birth: a song with verses from the
Italian poet and filmmaker's Canzoniere Italiano, "a melody,
like a suite in three movements of 6-7 minutes, with Japanese
elements", Dardust said.
Then there will be hidden tributes to the great names of the
international music scene, which Dardust does not want to fully
reveal yet, such as one to Goran Bregovic with the piece
"Stornelli" , and one for the Cure with the pizzica of
Torchiarolo, with a suggestion of the song "Lullaby" which
"speaks about a spider and which seemed perfect to me for the
Notte della Taranta"," said Dardust.
The protagonists of the pre-concertone will be the Taranters and
then the energy of Après La Classe.
Samuele Bersani will perform "Lu ruciu de lu mare", "the
manifesto of this music, a thing that honours me in particular",
said the Romagna singer-songwriter, launching as a provocation
the idea of the "pizzica as UNESCO heritage, such is the beauty
of this music." He will then propose a pizzicata version of
"Chicco e Spillo".
Marco Mengoni will sing the song in 'griko' (a local dialect
basd on ancient Greek) "Klama", while Elodie, as well as
reinterpreting her "Tribale", will get people dancing to the
"pizzica of St Vitus".
Finally, Madame will return to the Notte della Taranta, she who
was master concertist in the last edition and who this year will
be the narrator of the evening, telling yet again the tale of
her "ancient and immortal pizzica".
