President Sergio Mattarella met
visiting European Parliament President Roberta Metsola and EP
ambassador school students at the presidential palace Thursday
and told them they are Europe and borders are unthinkable.
"I welcome all of you and above all President Metsola," he said.
"You are the EU, you are a generation born with a consolidated
EU, you are persons that share values with your peers in Europe,
willing to travel and move and you imagine that passports,
obstacles and borders in this Europe are unthinkable.
"We started from a desire for an economic community, but this
result is far more important."
The meeting took place at the Quirinale presidential palace in
the Italian capital.
