Friday's flooding in Basilicata will
halt train traffic in the area until July 15, Italian railway
company Ferrovie dello Stato said in announcing the extension of
the suspension on Monday.
The interruption to train traffic on the Metaponto-Potenza
railway line in Basilicata, which has been at a standstill
"since the afternoon of 2 June due to flooding in the area
between Campomaggiore and Salandra", between the provinces of
Potenza and Matera, will continue until 15 July (and not
tomorrow, as announced two days ago), said the Ferrovie dello
Stato press office.
It said that teams from rail network company RFI "who intervened
to restore the line, near Vaglio Basilicata, in the province of
Potenza, found much greater damage caused by the heavy rainfall
in recent days".
