Calderone said on Monday the government is considering "broader
planning" in relation to the entry to Italy of migrant workers
after the number of applications from prospective employers
surpassed available places under the quota for 2023.
"There are 82,000 places, we are aware that the demand is
greater, but we are talking about activities other than seasonal
work or training," said the minister.
"We are going to monitor the situation, certainly the government
is attentive to the issue and we are looking at broader
programming to see if we should intervene again," she added.
The decree on migration flows for 2023 set the quota for non-EU
entries at 82.705 and included different types of workers
including employees, seasonal workers and freelancers.
Of the new entries in 2023, 44,000 are for seasonal labour in
agriculture and the hotel and tourism sector.
However, employers' associations say this is not enough and on
Monday farmers' association Coldiretti called for a new decree.
