Science: in Lithuania more women scientists, engineers
But in Hungary less than one third of the total
11 February, 16:06Official data made public by Eurostat today show that in five EU Member States the majority of scientists and engineers were women back in 2017. Among them, Lithuania (57% female), Bulgaria and Latvia (both 53%), followed by Portugal (51%) and Denmark (just over 50%). Above the EU average (41% in 2017), also Poland, Croatia, Slovenia and Romania. In contrast, less than one third of scientists and engineers were women in Hungary and Luxembourg (both 25%), the lowest share in the European Union, Finland (29%) and Germany (33%), Eurostat added. In 2017, the EU statistical office said, of almost 18 million scientists and engineers in the EU 41% women, with men particularly overrepresented in high and medium-high technology manufacturing (83%).
