(ANSA) - ROME, JUNE 15 - Apple has been active in Europe for 35 years supporting over 1.7mn jobs; since the launch of the App Store in 2008, European developers have earned more than 20bn euros by selling their apps all over the world. These data were released by the Cupertino-based company with regard to the iOS economy, which is linked to the operating systems for smartphones and tablets and related apps. About 1.5 million jobs - the company said - are attributable to the App Store system. Europe is also home to 22,000 Apple employees in 19 countries. 92% of European developers' earnings are generated by sales abroad. ''Apple is proud to have strong relationships with tens of thousands of developers across the region - the company emphasized - many of them have started their businesses with 1 or 2 people and have been able to grow thanks to Apple's investments in the iOS platform, development tools and the App Store''. In the last 2 years, the number of jobs in the European app economy app has grown by 28%. The three main cities in terms of occupations are London, Paris and Amsterdam. In Germany, Berlin and Munich are the strongest hubs. Finally, Apple cooperates with over 100 institutes and universities across Europe as part of the Everyone Can Code programme,that allows everyone to learn how to build apps. And in 2016 Apple opened its first iOS Developer Academy in partnership with the Federico II University in Naples to give students, both Italian and international, the opportunity to learn practical skills and be trained to develop apps: 44 students of the ongoing course have won the scholarship to attend the Annual Apple Developer Conference which took place a few days ago.
