(ANSA) - BELGRADE - The outgoing Slovenian premier Miro Cerar has proved to be enthusiastic about the fact that Melania Trump, who is of Slovenian origins, has not forgotten her mother tongue and shows interest in her native country. ''We can be really proud of the fact that the US First Lady was born in Slovenia and that she did not forget the Slovenian language, but she speaks Slovenian very well and she is always happy when he can talk about our country'', said Cerar after the Nato summit in Brussels, which he attended along with the other leaders of the Alliance.

US President Donald Trump was there with his wife Melania - Serbian Tanjug newsagency reported - who had the opportunity to speak Slovenian with the premier Cerar. ''We have met Melania and these talks were always very pleasant, of course we spoke Slovenian'', Cerar said, hoping that Melania will soon make an official visit to her birthplace.

Melania Trump, whose maiden name is Knavs, was born in 1970 in Sevnica, a town in western Slovenia, about 80 km away from Ljubljana and quite close to Krsko nuclear power plant. She left her country in the early nineties to work as a model in Milan and Paris, and then started a career in high fashion in New York, where she met her future husband Donald Trump in 1998.
