'Biennale Arte': Golden Lion to Lithuania

Ceremony at Ca' Giustinian attended by minister Bonisoli

(ANSA) - VENICE, MAY 11 - The Jury of the 58th Venice International Art Exhibition, chaired by Paolo Baratta and curated by Ralph Rugoff, awarded Lithuania's "Sun & Sea (Marina)" by Lina Lapelyte, Vaiva Grainyte and Rugile Barzdziukaite, the Golden Lion for best national participation. Belgium's 'Mondo Cane' by Jos de Gruyter & Harald Thys was awarded a Special mention for the national participation.

American director Arthur Jafa was awarded the Golden Lion for the best participant in the International Exhibition, with "May You Live In Interesting Times".

Long applause greeted the American artist Jimmie Durham, when he was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. The awards ceremony of the Art Biennale took place in Ca' Giustinian and was attended by president Paolo Baratta and curator Ralph Rugoff, in the presence of the Minister for Cultural Heritage and Activities Alberto Bonisoli, of the President of Veneto Luca Zaia and of Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro.
